Educational Biography
I grew up in Northeast Ohio except for my junior high years that were spent in Lamoni, Iowa. I graduated in 1981 from Perry High School and went on the next year to Ohio State University. I met my husband Jack my freshman year and we married the following summer. He was on active duty with the Marine Corps and a student at OSU at the time, but was transferred to Kansas City that summer. I continued with my education at the University of Kansas, but did not complete my bachelor’s degree before we moved back to Ohio so Jack could attend Ohio State for graduate school. I worked in accounting at Abbott Laboratories and we started a family when my oldest son Patrick was born and two years later, Jack Jr. Our next stop was Round Rock, Texas. I once again returned to school to complete my degree at the University of Texas. I graduated in 1997 with a degree in Curriculum and Development. The next year I substituted in Dripping Springs and was hired as a fifth grade teacher in 1998. I've taken several classes for Reading instruction at the masters level through Texas Tech. I feel learning is a life long process, so I will continue reading and studying in order to be aware of the most recent research and best practices available.
I have taught fifth grade, fourth grade, second grade, third grade and now am back in second grade.
Philosophy
I believe all students should be met at their learning level and challenged to excel from that point. As an educator it is my responsibility to research the best ways to help your child reach their academic and social goals and to motivate them to have a love of learning. I consider the time I get to spend with your child a privilege.
